The Idea
The project [shpooren#zoohe] (German Traces) started in 2007 in the framework of the GERMAN WEEKS in Sydney. The goal of the project is to establish short walks through Sydney, connecting places where German traces or German heritage can be discovered.
These traces will be made visible, so that Australians as well as Germans in Sydney will be encouraged to share their observations, views and opinions in order to widen the focus.
The related media is compiled by Australian and international students at the German Department of the University of Sydney, under the direction of Dr Sabine Jasny and Dr Andreas Jäger, University of Sydney.
The first tour, that has been developed, was a city walk through Sydney’s CBD comprising of 10 places/sights where German traces can be found. The walk has been guided very successfully during the GERMAN WEEKS and we had a number of bookings for 2008.
Furthermore, we could set up the website www.shpoorenzoohe.com.au in order to inform about the project.
The plan for 2009 is to extend the project and to set up and run more guided tours. And for 2010 it is intended to compile walks for other cultures, e.g. French, Italian, Japanese Traces.
